FLIP SIDE - Capital traffic

Yogesh Mishra

The RMC and police administration recently decided to improve the capital’s traffic system by posing stern face towards the norm violating motorists. The RMC also constituted zonal teams for the purpose. Suddenly, the roads and intersections of the capital wore a new look and Raipurians found traffic cops seriously discharging their responsibility in every square, triangle and turning. People thought they would soon get rid of frequent traffic bottlenecks at the busy roads. But, Raipur’s motorists are much smarter than the RMC and the police administration had anticipated. While some motorists prefer paying fine on tariff violation instead of learning rules, the others adopt different routes to avoid facing cops. The motorists ridicule the responsible authorities for intermittently awakening from deep trance and attempting to convince people that they would not sleep again and soon improve the traffic woes. The motorists say the solution of capital traffic lies on seriousness of the concerned departments which usually vanish after briefly pursuing their task. The traffic police also look worried. In fact, strictness is not in their habit. They rather believe in ‘compromise’ that eventually ‘satisfy’ them as well as the motorists. Some cops find it difficult in simultaneously managing the flooding motorists at road intersections and making challans against the queuing norm violators.
